Scout Fair Coupon Books
Posted By Angela Teague to Pack 1179
Hello Pack 1179!!!

It's that time of year again, Scout Fair Coupon Selling!!! The den leaders have the books and will be distributing soon! Where else can you pay $10 and get $400 in savings at local businesses in and around Houston?!!! WHAT A DEAL!

What is Scout Fair?
Scout Fair is a FREE fun-filled day at Reliant Arena on April 14, 2012. Scouts from all over Houston unite in one place displaying Scouting fun for all ages! All Scouts, Siblings and interested boys wanting to join Scouts are invited to attend.
Some of the activities include:
- Racing in the famous Mega Derby (Pinewood Derby Race)
- Learn about Boys Scout Merit badges
- Earn Belt Loops or Pins
- Sample outdoor cooking by the Boy Scouts
- Discover all that Scouting offers our youth today

Where will the earning go?
This year the Pack has decided to put our earnings towards a NEW Pack Trailer!!! It will be used for storage and to make hauling the equipment to camp-outs and events easier.

Cub Scout GOAL & Prizes
Each Scout should try to sell at least 10 books, or $100 worth. This is an easy and an obtainable goal. In addition to SHAC's prizes, the pack will purchase a $5 Target gift card for every 10 books sold by a Scout.

Kroger Selling Times
As in past years, there will be Kroger Selling times; Watch for e-mails on upcoming times.

Loss of Books
As in past years, it is critical that we do NOT lose any books. SHAC accounts for every book and dollar we turn in, any books lost will have to be paid for as if it were sold.

Pack Commission
The pack earns 40% (or $4) commission on each book with an extra 5% bonus commission the first month. We want to try and sell more books the first month to earn as much towards the trailer as we can. This is one of our highest margin fundraisers!

Collection Dates
Money should be delivered to your den leader or den representative prior to these dates for delivery to me. Our commission drops a little each date, so please, Sell EARLY!!!

Monday, February 20th
Monday, March 19th
Monday, April 2nd – FINAL DAY TO TURN IN ALL BOOKS AND MONEY TO ANGELA!!!

Please let me know if you have questions. Let’s get enough money to buy the trailer!!

Thanks to everyone that assisted in the Cub Scout Christmas Tree Recycling event.

It went very smooth and I actually think the kids had a good time loading and unloading the trees.

We officially tallied 204 trees. I am sure a few got loaded that were not tallied, but I believe we did great. It is a great program for the scouts and service to the community.

Thanks to all who assisted in the process.

Pinewood Derby Volunteers Needed
Posted By Greg Kerr to Pack 1179
A couple of Pinewood Derby notes:

1. Our annual Pack 1179 Pinewood Derby is coming up at the end of the month, and we need a few volunteers (10-12) to help out with the Friday night weigh-in (Jan 27) and the main event on Saturday (Jan 28). There are several areas where we usually set up 2-person teams to handle registration, weigh-in, race setup, displays, repair, etc. Always lots of fun!

For more information, you can contact this year's Pinewood Derby Coordinator, Stephen Moore. His email address is twilight.design@yahoo.com or by phone at (281) 455-4552. There will also be a meeting at his house NEXT Saturday morning, January 14th at 9 am, where we'll go over the different areas you can work in and how the whole event proceeds from start to finish (so to speak). The meeting will be at:

0302 Mantle Court
Houston, Texas 77065

2. Also, if you just need a car kit, Stephen has those as well.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This is a reminder that Pine Wood Derby cars need to completed by Friday January 27 for weigh in. Please remember that the car needs to dry and finished. Remember parts for your car must come from the kit. You can purchase different wheels are the scout shop only (must be BSA wheels). Also we want the boys to make the cars. Remember that building the car is a big part of scouting so let the boys build it. Dads (and moms too) we know you can build a great car, but let the boys show us what they can do. Parents and Siblings can build cars too (same rules as scouts).

Pack meeting reminder: Caroling at Ainsley Court
Posted By Chip Vacek to Pack 1179
Parents:

This is a reminder that there is NO pack meeting tomorrow night. Instead, we are caroling at Ainsley Court starting at 6pm on Monday, December 19th. The address to Ainsley Court is:

15055 N Eldridge Pkwy, Cypress, TX 77429

We will be singing the following songs:

Jingle Bells
We Three KIngs
All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
Away In a Manger
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
Joy to the World
Jolly Old St. Nicholas
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We'll keep it to 2 or 3 verses each and we will provide songsheets.

Also, we will be doing the drawings for the popcorn sales winners as well as other announcements. Many of your children had a great selling season, and my sincerest gratitude to all of you that participated. Although the popcorn selling is done by the kids, we have to take time out of busy schedules to chaperon them around the neighborhood, and we couldn't have achieved the results we did without everyone's help.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

December Pack Meeting: Time/Date/Venue Change
Posted By Chip Vacek to Pack 1179
Parents-

We are going to do something special for our December Pack meeting. We will NOT be holding it on Thursday 12/15. Rather, we are moving the date and time to Monday 12/19 at 6pm. We will be singing Christmas Carols at The Ainsley Court Assisted Living facility. The address is:

15055 North Eldridge Parkway, Cypress TX
(281) 374-8002

It's on Eldridge between Louetta and Malcomson

We will start promptly at 6pm so please be a few minutes early. We are in the process of putting together the program and will hopefully have a song list to distribute to you in the next day or so along with CD sampler of songs for you to practice in the car with your scout.

After we sing, we will be doing the popcorn prize drawing. So, please make every effort to attend.

This is a great opportunity to have our kids give back to the community and brighten someone's day. It may sound cliche to go caroling, but to watch these folks light up with all the kids around is heartwarming. This is an assisted living facility with about 30 residents. Most live independently in apartments or as the name implies, with some form of day to day assistance. I can promise you that they will be engaging, interactive, animated as the children sing and it will be obvious that they are enjoying themselves. And they have enough room to hold all of us. Parking may be a little challenging, so you might consider carpooling. It would be so awesome to hear 100 boys singing Jingle Bells!

I appreciate everyone's participation and I look forward to a great event!

Yours in Service,

Chip

The meeting is Dec 1 at the Community Center at 8 PM

We are still looking for a few more volunteers. If you have a few hours to spare, please step forward.

Please do not make me beg. OK I am begging... Please help us. We need a few more people.

Find more Volunteers:
1. Scout Fair -Two volunteers SHOULD be used here. One to organize the booth & den’s schedule AND one to do Scout Fair Coupons. The organizer of the booth is a ONE DAY helper. The dens do the work. You will just help and organize. You do not need to stay all day, but SCOUT FAIR is the so much fun. The person organizing the scout fair coupons will be doing the collect of the books and collecting the funds. You need be able to balance a check book and account for money.
2. Assistant Cubmaster (need two people) Work with den leads and go to other den meetings... Have real fun with Pack.
3. Grubmaster- This person hands the food at the camp outs. If you cook or grill or can at least make a ham sandwich... you are the right person for this job. You will not be cooking by yourself. You will be getting the supplies and organizing the cooks and helpers.
4. Summer Activities - You will be going to the events over the summer and help make sure that the dens have supplies.
5. Mentor for Tigers over Summer -this person will do what I did last year. Hold 1 den meeting a month for the Spring Tigers and answer questions. They will work with the Summer Activities person. Angela Teague has the program documented so it will just be following the guide. Angela Teague can assist whoever takes it over. This should be someone outside of Membership!

Please come join us.

Scout Fair – Need two people to organize
Posted By Jon Balter to Pack 1179
Scout Fair is a blast and a great fun raiser for the pack. If you have never been you are missing out on some real fun. I need two volunteers for Scout Fair.
Booklet sales organizer: We sell booklets for scout fair. It is a money collection and accounting job. You need to be able to handle money. Each book is $10 and they are prepaid. So if you loss 10 books you just cost us $100. So if loss your car keys and paperwork all the time… this is not the job for you. This is as big of a fund raiser as popcorn but it is easier because you have the product in hand. Angela has agreed to show this person what to do and how to do it. Thanks again Angela.

Booth Organizer: We have a booth at scout fair. We setup our packs great putt-putt course. Each den signs up for a time and runs the booth. Running the booth is easy. The boys hand out the putter and candy. No tickets… No money… just for fun... The only real work is setup and break down. So this person is to organize a dens and volunteers to help make that happen. I will help you in the process and make sure you understand what you have to do. This is a one day event and great for that Dad that is too busy during the week.

I NEED THESE TWO PEOPLE ASAP. Please email me at balter.jon@gmail.com or call 832-876-3617

Thursday Pack Meeting/Venue Change
Posted By Chip Vacek to Pack 1179
As a reminder, we will have our November Pack meeting this Thursday. We are changing the venue to Spillane Middle Schools cafeteria as there is a conflict with using Sampson. We will still have the Cake Bake and Food Drive for CAM. The meeting will still start at 7pm with doors opening at 6:45pm.

Prizes will be awarded and the winning cakes will be raffled with the proceeds going to CAM. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each. With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, we’re going to put a lot of emphasis on the spirit of giving and between the food drive and the proceeds of the raffle, we should be able to make a nice contribution to the community on behalf of the Pack.

Cake themes are based on rank:

Tigers- Patriotic Theme
Wolf- Monument Theme
Bear: States Theme
Webelo- Historical sites Theme

For the food drive, CAM could really use the following:
Pasta, rice, beans, spaghetti noodles, SPAM, canned chicken and shampoo.

Also, Thursday is the final turn in date for the Popcorn Sales. Susan Spears will have a table where she will be collecting your forms and money.

See you Thursday!

Help us, help your son. Volunteer. The Cub Scouts is a volunteer organization and requires your help. We have a large pack of 140 boys. Currently, I have positions open as committee members and activity coordinators. I am asking parents, grandparents and guardians to help. I am not asking for you to commit your life to The Cub Scouts, but help in some small part. If you can volunteer for one event or one thing, you would be doing your part. You want the boys to learn about community and group service, the best way is through example. Some jobs are easy like collection of money or forms. We as a committee are going to help teach you and guide you. You will not be alone. We have over 300 people (boys plus families) on the boat of Pack 1179. We need to get more oars in the water. If everyone helps then no one person has to carry the whole load. If we all put our oars in the water and help to row this boat we will move faster and easier than ever before.

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” Ryunosuke Satoro quotes

Please take the time to fill out this form and get involved. Your scout will thank you for it and the pack will grow stronger because of it.
